A Snowman made out of practically nothing!

After our big snow storm last week the kids were not able to build a snowman because the snow would not stick together. So Saturday they were playing outside and decided to try again with only a small strip of snow that had been left by the fence in the shade. Amazing that they actually got a whole snowman out of it!

Strawberry Pie

A good friend of mine asked me to make a fresh strawberry pie for her boss' birthday. I had never made a fresh strawberry pie but I am always up for a challenge. I cannot believe how perfect this pie turned out and how delicious they said it tasted. My friend said her boss never has seconds of anything but he went back for a second slice of this pie. Always good to hear when you are trying out new recipes! This pie just reminds me of the perfect summer time dish...cool and refreshing! Now I just need to make one for myself so I can say I have actually tasted it if I ever get anymore requests.

Baseball Memories

Two years ago when we attended the Sky Sox baseball game for the 4th of July we took pictures on this same baseball and I think from now on to make it a real tradition we will take these same pictures. Next year little Miss Avery will be included so it should make for an even cuter picture!

Beckett's Birthday Bash!

This July 3rd just happened to be the Sky Sox baseball game and fireworks show so we decide what a fun time that would be for Beckett's 3rd Birthday. He love it! I thought we were gonna have to chase him around the whole stadium all night but he watched the majority of the game and particpated in all the chants and clappings that were going on. He got a little restless towards the end, as did all the others, in anticipation for the fireworks at the end. So finally at about 10:30 I think when the game was over the lights went off and the firewords started. If you had ever asked Beckett what he wanted for his birthday he would have told you Fireworks. No toys no games no nothing just Fireworks!! What an easy kid to please beings that his birthday is the day before the 4th of July. He absolutely loved the fireworks and is still talking about them. He will tell you everything you wanna know about the baseball game and every color of firework he saw that night and how little or big they were. He will also tell you his favorite saying during the baseball game was "Come on Sissy!" And it is hiliarious to hear him say it. We loved razzing the Utah Bees...even though they did win by one run. :0(

We had a wonderful time and are going to try to make this our yearly tradition for our 4th of July family celebration. Thanks to everyone who made his birthday such a wonderful day for him and our night truly one to remember. Love you all!

Megan's Graduation

I am so far behind on posting. I figured I had best get this done now before Avery arrives and then I really don't have any spare time. :0) Megan is finally a 1st Grader and can attend a full day of school...thank goodness. Whoever invented half day kindergarten needs to be shot! We are so proud of you Megan. Before we know it she will be graduating from high school and I will somehow find a way to complain about that as well. In the meantime we will enjoy her while she is young and still loving school.

My mother-in-law Sandy helped me make my first blanket for a baby shower that I am throwing for a friend. Not to mention it was my very first sewing project EVER. Yes I said EVER! I am so stoked at how it turned out. Better than I could have ever imagined. I guess I can do something this crafty when I put my mind to it. I also made pacifier holders that turned out way cute as well. Now I am on a mission to make some blankets for our little one coming in July. She will be one stylin' chic with all her new blankets! :0)

Let's hope she takes after me...no hurt feelings right Scott. She is due July 30 so five more months until she makes her debut into this crazy family...she might want to rethink that decision! :0)

My mother-in-law Sandy asked me to make a cake for Rich and Tiff's birthday. There was really no way to include an over the hill cake and a girlie cake all in one so I made two. They turned out pretty good but of course the perfectionist in me will always find mistakes. The cakes were delicious and that's all that mattered in the end. I need to take more time and practice how to make fondant bows so my next one will come out looking better. And I also need to keep Beckett out of eating the bow pieces as well! I can't keep that kid out of anything. Hope you guys had a great birthday. Too many boys in the family...we need more girls!

My parents, older sister Kerri and her daughter Alison came to visit us for Megan's Birthday and Halloween weekend. Since we had the trunk or treat Friday night the kids put on half of their costumes and we decided to go bowling for Halloween instead of trick or treating. We had a blast. Okay here is the story behind how and why I offered to make this monstrous cake...

Scott came home the other night from being out home teaching with John Neilson who happens to be the Ward Activities Chairman. Scott was telling me about what they were doing for the ward trunk or treat since I had already signed to take cornbread and cupcakes. He contined to tell me that they were going to do a cake for dessert and were ordering two sheet cakes from Costco. I had an instant heart attack and called John immediately. Pretty much scolded him for even thinking about ordering cakes from Costco. The best you would get is a cake that is as much icing as it is cake and probably air brushed with "Happy Halloween" on the top. Nothing special at all and can you say GROSS! So myself being a glutton for punishment on top of the cupcakes and cornbread and also needing to get cupcakes for Meg's b-day done the same night and pumpkin bread for her class party as well I begged him to let me take care of the cake for the ward trunk or treat. Little did I know it had to feed 100 people at the time but I was up for the challenge. I called a friend in the ward Natalie since she loves to do cakes and asked if she wanted to help. I drew up a sketch and I knew what I wanted it to look like but I had no idea that it would turn out as well as it did. I am so proud of what Natalie and I put together in about three hours. Amazing! So the cake inside is white cake two colored orange and two colored black with white buttercream in between. I hope it looks really cool when it's cut into. The icing on top is chocolate buttercream covered in crushed oreo cookies. Natalie made rocks and the Happy Halloween letters out of gum paste. The tombstones are Milano cookies dipped in white chocolate and then RIP written in black. The ghosts are white lollipops and we just filled in the eyes and mouth with black as well. The fence is made of white lollipop sticks painted with chocolate. And then last but not least the haunted house is a gingerbread kit that was premade. I cannot even imainge making that from scratch! So there is it our wonderful Halloween cake that we hope with be the center of attention at the trunk or treat. Happy Halloween to all!!

Avalanche vs. Red Wings

Scott and I don't get very many pictures together since they are usually all about the kids so here is one of us from last weekend.

A few weeks ago my dear friend Deanna asked me if I would like to come help decorate some cookies for a Pepsi Center event. I was more than happy to help since it gets me out of the house away from work and the kids are at a sitter for a few hours. The cookies were a big hit at the event and in return for our hard work she was given tickets to some games and so she gave Scott and I tickets to a hockey game in which we picked the game against the Red Wings. The seats were amazing and we were catered to all evening! What a treat! The Avs won 3-1 so that was the icing on the cake. Thank you so much Deanna we had an amazing time.

Fall Festival

We headed out to a fall festival this year and although it was not the greatest we still had fun. We at least got to go on the hayride to see the cows which Beckett absolutely loved! Fun family times and next year we will have to find a little better one. Trial and Error I guess.

Ethan has always loved to put puzzles together and has always been really good at it but while my sister Jodi was in town she bought the kids these two puzzles and Ethan and I put them together in record time. It only took us a day for each puzzle. I was really surprised at how good he was with bigger puzzles...550 pieces to be exact. We will definitely continue this hobby 'cause it gets harder and harder everyday as Ethan gets older to find stuff for him and I to enjoy together. I finally found that one thing for us!

First day of School....FINALLY!!

The kids finally started school yesterday the 24th and I am sooooo happy! Granted I only have two and a half hours before Megan comes back home but hey, little time is better than no time. Ethan is in 2nd grade now and Megan is in Kindergarten, half day unfortunately. You have to pay for all day kindergarten here and it is EXPENSIVE! I just have to remind myself that when this year is over she will be in school all day and then I won't know what to do with myself. Oh wait I know...I will bake all day. YUMMY!

As I was reading your blog the other night about Hunter I kid you not Beckett came walking out dressed in Megan's clothes. I laughed so hard that I was reading about Hunter's dressing fopaux's and then I have got a kid that will not stop dressing in his sister's clothes. I had to take a picture so that I could post this for you. Then again today he decided to try on my socks with Megan's shoes and this is what you get. It's pretty sad that a two year old can fit into a five year old's clothes but even worse that he enjoys it. So know that you are not the only one with children who wear their clothes backwards or even wear their sister's clothes. Would Hunter do the same thing if he had an older sister with bright pink clothes? :0)

So this is the real reason why my sister was in town doing photographs for me. I am finally juming in with both feet and going for my dream. I have decided to start out small and make baked goods from home and out of a friend's bakery here in Colorado. One day, hopefully not too far away, I will be able to have my own bakery...that is the big picture I am striving for. So here are a few pictures of the food and also the brochure/menu that Jodi and I have created to get this all started. Again many thanks to Jodi for all the work she has done. She has definitely done a lot more than I have so I just hope she takes payment in cupcakes! :0)

Here are some daytime pictures of what it looks like outside. The forest area between the condos has been thinned out drastically. Before the storm you could not even see the condos across from us becuase of how thick and huge all the trees were now you can see them. You can see how well it shredded everything. And to think that our area was not hit the hardest that some other ares in Lakwood. I am gonna drive around today and get some more pictures of the city and see what kind of damage it did.

Our experience with a tornado last night at 10:30 looked like this but much worse in person. Pictures are not very good but it was so dark out that it was hard to get the total aftermath of the storm. I was working and the lights flickered twice and my computer shut down so I got up to see what was going on and it was dead quiet outside, so I figured someone hit a pole somewhere big deal. In a matter of seconds...literally...the house started shaking like a cardboard box and we were in the middle of it all. I would say about 70 to 80 mile an hour winds ripped the trees, bushes and everything in sight to shreds. Mid sized hail pelted everything in its path and left a blanket of what looks like snow and then in a matter of 10 minutes it was all over and it was dead silent besides the rain that was falling. We then had three screaming kids scared to death huddled in a corner in the hallway that were awaken by the howling wind and the sound of rain and hail on the windows. Beckett shook like a leaf for about 15 minutes after it was all over and when we all finally went back to bed Beckett just laid between us with is eyes wide open quiet as a mouse afraid to go to sleep. Poor little guy the storm absoltely terrified him. We did not find out until after the storm was over while watching the news that a tornado had touched down in our area and so we came to realize that we were stuck in the middle of a tornado and did not even know it until it was over. I will have to take some pictures today of the aftermath but Scott said the pool had broken trees branches and leaves and pool chairs all over the place and in the pool. Kinda scary when you think back on it and realize what actually had happended.

Denver Zoo...gone once, gone twice, could there be a third?

Now that summer is here we have to find stuff to keep ourselves busy...in such case we have been to the Denver Zoo twice. They were both six hour days and we were exhausted by the end but we got to see all the animals and had a great time with our family in doing so.

Fondant Trials

My first attempt at using fondant what do you think? I made it for a baby shower over the weekend and I thought it came out pretty darn good for the first time using it. The cake was absolutely sinful though with chocolate cake and a strawberry buttercream filling made with real strawberries, not flavoring. It was DELICIOUS!!

This is how the kids spend their time at Grandma and Grandpa Gardner's house...sliding down the stairs. They are trying to convert Beckett into doing the same. This is a couple of days early but we had to have Ethan's family birthday party due to crazy schedules. The silly kid wanted a cookie cake instead of a regular cake so easy enough for me we had a giant cookie cake and ice cream and brownies for his birthday. So we spent a couple of minutes slapping on Cappy the Fire Dog tattoos and this is how it turned out. Gotta love pirates. So this is our Easter! We spent the weekend in Roswell and the kids enjoyed two egg hunts and numerous hours in the bounce house thanks to Granma and Grandad. :0) We had a great weekend and loved having all our family together minus Fraser due to the grueling hours of tax season. We missed you Fras! We had plenty of ribs and pulled pork to last us another couple of months but it sure was good. It's great to be able to get everyone together for a holiday and have so much fun!

The weather was so beautiful in Denver this past Saturday that we decided to take a drive up to Breckenridge for the day. They just got dumped on with snow but Saturday was beautiful. The kids loved playing and I myself loved the breath of fresh air and the cool mountain smells. Gotta love the mountains!! Scott and I took a picture at this same rock when we were a newly engaged couple...8 years ago. We thought it would be fun for our kids to have the same photo. Beckett only hung around for one picture, as you can tell, but Ethan and Megan were up for some additional photo ops. Megan has become quite the poser these days. :0) But all in all we had a blast and enjoyed the stop at our beloved Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. Can't beat the caramel apples!

So this is how we spent our Thanksgiving Day...in the ER! This is why you do not play dodgeball with a basketball...Uncle Jason. You are never gonna live this one down. With all visits set aside and all money paid it is pretty funny that we spent our evening in the ER. Melinda and I sure did have a lot of fun people watching...I have to admit ER's are far more better than Malls for people watching! :0) Ethan is doing fine just a bright red cast and we called it good. No worries Jason this will only haunt you for the rest of your life...along with my broken arm and Jodi's broken arm!!

Halloween is a holiday that I do not care for but the kids sure did turn out cute! Megan has not made too many friends since we moved here so we had cake and ice cream at home and then over the weekdend Megan, Great-Grandma Pool and myself went to lunch and shopping. Ethan had an awards assembly at his school last week and was presented with an award for
Academic Achievement. We are so proud of him as we did not know how he would take the
change from the Arizona school system to the highly achieving Colorado school system. He is doing great and we could not ask for anything more from him. He is loving every minute of being a 1st grader so let's hope this continues on through the rest of his school years. We are so proud of you Ethan...Great Job!

Denver had their free day at the zoo a couple of weeks ago so we figured it was the best time if any to take the kids. Megan was obsessed with seeing zebras, which we saw, and pigs which we did not see since it was not at a farm. Silly girl! Ethan wanted to see anything with four legs or even two as he was quite fascinated by the ducks...I have no idea! :0) It was definiltey a very crowded and stressful day but we all had fun and loved the fact that all the animals were out on display...all except the Lion...which was missing in action. We will definitely do it again 'cause you can't ever beat a free day at the zoo!

We made a trip to Home Depot to get locks on Saturday and found out there was an event going on in the parking lot that included fire trucks, cop cars, bomb squad units with bomb robot and the SWAT truck. We went over to check it out since Ethan love fire trucks and cops and it turned out to be really fun. They had a race track set up with John Deere tricycles and then pumpkin painting and you could also build a fire truck from wood. That we ended up taking home and doing because there was such a long line for that craft. Anyhow we ended up making a 30 minute trip to Home Depot into a two hour excursion through the parking lot. We had fun and so did the kids and when we got home they were so worn out they all took really long naps...yeah for peaceful moment for mom!

On Labor Day we spent the day with the Monson Family at A Taste of Denver. A day of lots of food, fun and rides for the kids and the kids at heart! The kids loved riding the rides at the little carnival but poor Beckett didn't get to ride anything 'cause he was not big enough (can you believe Beckett not being big enough!) so he sat in his stroller and watched or slept...what an eventful day for him. The rest of us had tastings of just about every food you could possibly crave and then some. It was a scorcher that day and so by the end of four hours we were all exhausted, but we had a blast. Tiff and James had the blessing of their new son Steven over the Labor Day weekend. We spent Sunday at Rich and Sandy's enjoying the company of seven of the nine grandchildren. Cory and Katie surprised everyone and flew into town for the blessing...we had a blast!

We ventured out to Salt Lake this summer for Kelly and Isaac's wedding and boy did we have fun. We visited the Gardner Village, which was establish by Scott's great great great grandfather (I think I have enough greats in there). The kids had a blast playing at the park and running amuck on the temple grounds. All in all they were really well behaved and we had so much fun but were ready to come back home. We just had to stop to get a picture of us coming back into Colorado since we had never done that anytime we had traveled.

SO AFTER OUR DELICIOUS BARBEQUE WE ALL HAD TICKETS TO GO TO THE SKYSOX BASEBALL GAME AND FIREWORKS SHOW. THEY ARE ACTUALLY SITTING ON A BASEBALL WHICH I WISH SHOWED UP BETTER BUT STILL IT'S A DANG CUTE PICTURE OF THE THREE OF THEM ALL DRESSED UP FOR THE 4TH. WE HAD A BLAST AND THE KIDS REALLY ENJOYED THE FIREWORKS AT THE END OF THE GAME.

So this is how we started out the move! Beckett was so excited to get in the car that as we were loading up the last little things into the car and moving truck he got so excited when Scott opened the door that he went running out and tripped over Scott's foot and WHAM smacked face first into the floor and busted his lip. We had to take him to the Urgent Care who refused to treat him because "they were not listed as our primary care physician" so we went to his doctor and they said if we took him to the hospital they would not do stitches anyhow because it was in the lip. So needless to say he traveled with a fat lip for two days. Poor guy!!
